God of War, Cory Barlog explains the influence of George Miller and Mad Max

Speaking on GameSpot microphones, creative director Cory Barlog revealed the influence of George Miller and his creature Mad Max on the realization of God of War.

Before returning to Santa Monica Studio, around 2008, the two collaborated to develop a game on Mad Max, which was then canceled by Avalanche Studios in favor of the open world of 2015.

“I think I would not even have tried to play this game if I had not worked with George,” Barlog said, about the meaning of that experience. “This is the impact it has had”.

“I feel that before working with him, I was like reading a book without having glasses and having a terrible sight, so I saw the words but they were blurred”.

Providing a more pertinent comment, he added that “working with him and starting to understand what the drama is, because the conflict is necessary in the development of all the characters, made me wear glasses to help me understand that I really did not understand the drama”.

God of War’s creative director pointed out that none of Mad Max’s ideas had “a similar transfer one-to-one” in his new title, but that “this idea of developing relationships on the road, ideas and characters that they understand each other while they have a path, it was something I had started to explore in our draft of Max “.
