The modder community continues to give new experiences to fans of the most beloved sagas, and this time it’s the turn of one of the most iconic chapters of the Yakuza series. A new mod radically transforms the Yakuza 0 gaming experience (here’s our review), introducing a local cooperative mode that allows you to tackle the entire criminal adventure of Kamurocho and Sotenbori together with a friend. This is an addition that completely redefines the way to experience one of the most popular titles in the SEGA series, now available in a totally new look for those who want to rediscover it on PC.
Modder Jhrino has released this ambitious mod that simultaneously introduces Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima into the action, allowing two players to control the protagonists of the saga’s prequel locally. The most interesting peculiarity lies in the integration of the characters even in the gameplay cutscenes, where both protagonists appear side by side, creating visually new situations compared to the original narrative.
From a technical point of view, the mod fully supports the individual progression of each character. The second player can in fact independently manage the skill tree of their alter ego by pressing the Shift + O combination in the pause menu, which allows you to alternate between Kiryu’s skills and those of Majima. This system guarantees complete customization of the cooperative experience, avoiding imbalances in difficulty or progression.
As for compatibility, the mod currently works with the Steam and GOG versions of Yakuza 0, while the situation for the build available on the Microsoft Store remains uncertain. Installation necessarily requires the Shin Ryu Mod Manager in its most updated version, which can be downloaded directly from NexusMods together with the mod itself. The developers recommend using compatible
While the mod was primarily designed for local co-op, there is a workaround for those who want to play online with distant friends. Through remote streaming services such as Parsec or RemotePlayWhatever, it is theoretically possible to share the cooperative experience even remotely, taking advantage of remote play technology to circumvent the limitations of local mode.
