Xbox Series X and S will increase in price and now it’s official, the communication comes from Microsoft but, if nothing else, there is good news: the increase will affect only the Japanese market for now.
For the moment, as you can also check on Amazon, the Microsoft home consoles have in fact remained at the same list price.
On the other hand Phil Spencer had already hinted that the price of the consoles would not always remain the same, and now the confirmation has arrived.
And before that, the price increase had already arrived in various countries and, with today’s news, widens further.
As Games Industry reports, in fact, Xbox Series X and S officially increase in price in Japan.
An increase that will become effective starting February 17 and which, exponentially , affects both consoles equally.
- Xbox Series S: ¥32,978 ($254) to ¥37,978 ($292)
- Xbox Series X: ¥54,978 ($423) to ¥59,978 ($461)
An increase in the order of about $40 which is still substantial, considering that we are already talking about products that are obviously not cheap.
And that comes after a dig always from Xbox which, at the time of the announcement of the PS5 price increase, had reassured the players about the price list.
Obviously we don’t know if and when these price changes will arrive in the West, and therefore also in Italy, but it is reasonable to think that the changes to the console price lists have not ended here in any case.
Together with the increase in game prices, however, it returns a truly jarring picture in Japan. In fact, even the products of the Redmond house will cost €80 in the list, for a precise reason that was later specified by Microsoft to try to plug the hole.
It is curious to think that, at a certain point, Xbox Series S had come to cost even less than Nintendo Switch. For a good time, both during Black Friday and during the holiday season.
