The tussle around the Xbox Activision-Blizzard deal inevitably continues, with the European Commission which is said to be about to definitively reject the acquisition.
A story that has always seen Xbox Game Pass at the center, the subscription service (you also subscribe through Amazon) which in this way would have too many titles.
Throughout 2022 we saw many declarations, bordered by both sides, in an alternation that has also become very exciting for some.
And while new enemies, so to speak, of Xbox and Microsoft have arrived in the last few hours, comes the possibility of another very heavy stop.
As Reuters reports, in fact, the European Commission is about to communicate its intention to reject definitively the Activision Xbox deal- Blizzard.
There is a likelihood that Microsoft could receive an EU antitrust notice on its offer, as reported some sources familiar with the matter. A full-blown warning that would put the Redmond colossus in difficulty.
The European Commission is preparing a statement of objections, known as a Statement of Objections, outlining its concerns about the deal, which it will send to Microsoft in the coming weeks.
At the moment, the representatives of the commission, who have until April 11 to define the new verdict, did not want to comment on the matter.
Microsoft has always said it is willing to collaborate in any way, against any objection and regulator, on several occasions. In fact, spokesman David Cuddy recently declared that the company is “prepared to proactively address the issues raised”.
The European Commission therefore remains among the most difficult opponents of Xbox Activision-Blizzard, considering that it was among the first bodies to investigate the acquisition.
Among other things, precisely in relations with Europe, in the past there have been misunderstandings and particular “unsaid”, also with regard to Bethesda for example.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is continuing to invest in various sectors regarding the future, such as artificial intelligence.
