« It is difficult for us to increase PS5 production in the midst of the shortage of semiconductors and other components,» , chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki revealed to shareholders.

A situation that had been “predicted” in some way by the experts, who had suggested that there would be important limitations at the production level and that the shortage of consoles would not have been linked to the will of the Japanese platform owner.

The same AMD, which supplies the chips for both next-generation platforms (including Xbox Series X | S), had anticipated the extension for at least the first six months of the year of the stock emergency.

Sony’s forecast is that 7.6 million consoles will be sold by March 31, 2021 , so these difficulties shouldn’t have a particularly dramatic impact.

Availability is also a problem for the competition, for the same reasons, to the point that for Xbox Series X the difficulties are expected to last for two months longer than planned.
