Foams of God of War’s live action adaptation should start at the beginning of next year, but at the moment the project remains wrapped in mystery, especially as regards the casting of the key role of Kratos.
The project sees Guide Ronald D. Moore, known for Battlestar Galactica, as a showrunner, flanked by a team of screenwriters from his for All Mankind series on Apple TV+. Despite this, the choice of the actor who will play Kratos will be crucial, given the imposing physique and the iconic aspect of the character: a mistake here could compromise the entire series in the eyes of the fans.
Christopher Judge, official voice of Kratos in the most recent chapters set in the Norse mythology, would seem to have excluded himself from the Amazon Prime series.
Judge was indicated as a possible candidate in a video by John Campea, Hollywood insider, but the same actor replied on social media with a peremptory message: “I am?”, Accompanied by a series of emojis that express perplexity and surprise.
Other names suggested from Campea include Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista, but there are no official confirmations, and their real availability or interest remains uncertain.
If filming really start at the beginning of 2026, Amazon will be likely to reveal concrete news on the cast. Kratos and saga fans will finally enjoy some tangible anticipation on those who will play the role of the god of war in the live action version.
The choice of the actor for Kratos will probably be the most delicate moment of production. Kratos is not only an iconic character for gameplay, but also for his physical presence and the voice that has accompanied him in recent years. I find it interesting that Judge wanted to immediately clarify his position: he shows how ready to react to any rumor and how much the responsibility to embody a videogame myth can also be heard by the actors themselves.
For a series so awaited, the risk of disappointment is high, but with Moore at the helm, there is a good possibility that the adaptation can find a balance between loyalty to the game and quality TV show.
