Torchlight Frontiers becomes Torchlight III, comes out in the summer

Torchlight Frontiers becomes Torchlight III and comes out on PC in the summer, as announced today by the publisher Perfect World Entertainment and the developer Echtra Games.

While Frontiers was a free production to-play, Torchlight III will adopt the typical paid model of the franchise in the two previous episodes.

The launch is scheduled on Steam for PC in the summer, and “shortly after” on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Also on PC, players will be able to access an alpha closed on January 29.

Max Schaefer, CEO of Echtra Games, explained that during the Torchlight Frontiers tests the team of development realized that “shared-world experience” was taking the series off the shelf.

“We decided it was time to bring the game to its origins and model it in the wake of the classic Torchlight games that RPG fans have loved. “

Frontiers was initially scheduled for 2019 but has been postponed several times, let’s imagine, at this point , precisely because the studio was already cultivating the idea of reprogramming it as something very different.
