A veteran of the videogame industry that has contributed to transforming Lego bricks into one of the most loved videogame franchises in the world is now aiming for the island that is not there. Tom Stone, a key figure in the creation of the LEGO Games Empire through TT Games, has created a new development study with a goal as ambitious as it is noble: to create a video game based on Peter Pan that can generate funds for the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. The project represents an unusual combination of digital creativity and charity, exploiting a particular legal situation that makes Barrie’s character unique in the panorama of intellectual property.
Stone’s career in the LEGO universe began in the early 2000s, when he was part of the LEGO Interactive Managerial Team. When the Danish company decided to abandon the videogame sector, Stone and colleague Jonathan Smith did not stop: they founded Giant Interactive, ensuring the exclusive license for Lego games. The decisive moment came when Traveller’s Tales was working on the first chapter of Lego Star Wars, a project that proved to be a resounding success and led to the acquisition of Giant Interactive, giving life to TT Games with Stone in the role of Managing Director.
For almost eighteen years, Stone has led the development of titles that have conquered millions of players all over the world, from the Star Wars saga to the universes of Harry Potter, Batman and Marvel. His exit from TT Games in 2020 marked the end of an era, leading him first to the presidency of Futurlab, the study behind Powerwash Simulator, and then to the foundation of the new entrepreneurial project.
