After more than a decade of waiting, Grand Theft Auto 6 finally approaches the sunlight.
But behind the scenes, the journey towards the next chapter of the Rockstar Games criminal epic was far from linear, after you already rumored with problems in development.
This was revealed by a former employee of the company and former chief editor of Rockstar Magazine, who has revealed how three versions of the script of the sequel to GTA 5 (which you find on Amazon) were discarded before arriving at the definitive one starring Lucia and Jason.
According to what GTA 6’s development began in 2014, shortly after the enormous success of Grand Theft Auto 5. The first draft of the story was entrusted to Dan Houseer, historical screenwriter and co-founder of Rockstar Games, known for his ability to create mature, cynical and provocative narratives.
This first version, which should have replicated the winning formula of the trio of protagonists of GTA 5, included a former policeman of Vice City, incorruptible but pushed to the crime to save his son, the son himself overwhelmed by organized crime and the right arm of a powerful Lord of Colombian drug.

In 2019, a third iteration was taken into consideration, but also did not pass the internal examination. This continuous succession of cancellations led Rockstar to temporarily interrupt narrative development, a pause made even more significant by the departure of Houseer in 2020.
It was precisely after the leaving the scene of HOUSER that took shape the definitive version of the history of GTA 6, which has as protagonists Lucia and Jason, a duo inspired by the famous criminal couple Bonnie & Clyde.
The fact that there have been four versions of history and more than ten years of gestation demonstrates how obsessed Rockstar it is by perfectionism. With a development budget that, according to some sources, surpasses the billion dollars, GTA 6 is already one of the most ambitious projects in the history of the video game.
If the results will live up to expectations, we will find out in 2026. But one thing is certain: GTA 6 will not only be a game, it will be a cultural event.
