Halo Studios has found a new creative guide for the future of the franchise. John Williams, better known as J.J. Williams announced through LinkedIn that he has taken on the role of Creative Director at the study, bringing with him a wealth of experiences gained on some of the largest giants in the sector.
The Williams’ curriculum is in fact of those who do not go unnoticed, in his years in Raven Software, has worked on numerous chapters of Call of Duty, from Black Ops 6 to Modern Warfare 3, passing through Warzone and Vanguard, until he assumes the role of associate Creative Director.
Before even, his career had seen him actually involved such as Midway Games, Disney Interactive Studios and Netherrealm Studios, also contributing to recall projects such as Mortal Kombat and Disney Infinity.
The most recent experience brought him among the ranks of Respawn Entertainment, where he held the role of principal designers on Apex Legends from August 2024 until the summer of 2025.
A path that made Williams a key figure in the design of game mechanics capable of influencing entire genres, from single player campaigns to multiplayer live service experiences.
His arrival in Halo Studios takes place at a crucial moment for the Master Chief saga. With new games in development and at least a planned outing for 2026, the study is called to relaunch the franchise after fluctuating years, characterized by the success of Halo Infinite (here our review) at the launch but also by a support that is not always convincing.
The choice to focus on a veteran who worked on a series with a competitive mold as a call of duty and Apex Legends therefore seems to indicate the desire to strengthen the saga multiplayer heart, without forgetting the importance of a solid and cinematographic campaign.
Williams, for his part, has enthusiastically accepted the new assignment, calling him a fundamental step of his career and thanking the Halo community for his warm welcome. Specific details have not been widespread on the projects he is working on, but his name suggests that the next chapters of the franchise could focus on a mix between narrative spectacularity and renewed attention to competitive action.
