It was in the air but is now official : Sony has announced the new version of its subscription service, PlayStation Plus , coming soon in June 2022 .
The post on the official website reads: «in June we will bring together PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now in a brand new PlayStation Plus subscription service that offers customers more choice through three levels of subscription globally”.
When the new PlayStation Plus service launches, PlayStation Now will switch to the new PlayStation Plus offering and will no longer be available as a standalone service.
PlayStation Now customers will migrate to PlayStation Plus Premium without any increase in their current subscription fees at launch.
The goal is to «provide selected and high quality content with a diversified catalog of games» , as specified in the official post.
Below is an overview of the three levels of subscription provided in the service:
PLAYSTATION PLUS ESSENTIAL
Offers the same benefits currently available to PlayStation Plus subscribers, such as two downloadable games per month, exclusive discounts, cloud storage for saved games and access to online multiplayer
This tier is unchanged for current PlayStation Plus subscribers, with the price of PlayStation Plus Essential remaining the same as the current price of PlayStation Plus ( € 8.99 per month / € 24.99 every three months / € 59.99 per year )
PLAYSTATION PLUS EXTRA
It offers all the benefits of the Essential level, plus it offers a catalog that includes up to 400 of the most fun PS4 and PS5 games, including blockbuster titles from the PlayStation Studios catalog and from third-party partners (9 Extra level games can be downloaded to play). The price for Europe will be € 13.99 per month / € 39.99 every three months / € 99.99 per year .
PLAYSTATION PLUS PREMIUM
Will offer all the benefits of the Essential and Extra levels, with up to 340 additional games , including PS3 games available via cloud streaming as well as a catalog of great classics, available both streaming and download, from the original PlayStation, PS2 and PSP generations.
It will also offer cloud streaming access to original games for PlayStation, PS2, PSP and PS4 available in Extra and Premium tiers in markets where PlayStation Now is currently available (customers can play streaming using PS4 and PS5 consoles and PC).
Trial versions of limited-time games will also be available in this tier, allowing customers to try out some games before purchasing them, at a cost of € 16.99 per month / € 49 for Europe. 99 every three months / € 119.99 per year .
Sony was keen to point out that for markets where cloud streaming is not available, it will offer PlayStation Plus Deluxe for a lower price than the Premium tier with a catalog of classics from the original generations of PlayStation, PS2 and PSP to download and play, as well as trial versions of limited-time games.
