The most celebrated champion in classic Tetris dies at 39

Tetris fans mourn one of the greatest champions in video game history: Jonas Neubauer has passed away on January 4, 2021 at the age of only 39 .

The causes of death are not clear, communicated via social media, but the legendary player , face of the competitive scene of Tetris , has left a great void in fans of the historical video game.

“It is with a weight on our heart that we bring you the terrible news that Jonas has died of a sudden medical emergency , reads an update published on his Twitter account.

« It was absolutely the best . We are devastated, overwhelmed by pain and we already miss it deeply. Information will follow when available ».

As Destructoid points out, Neubauer’s palmares, made up of records and titles, demonstrate why the competitive Tetris scene is so shock.

The most titled player in classic Tetris history has won the Classic Tetris World Championships seven times, with four titles won in a row from 2010 to 2013 and repeating three times in a row between 2015 and 2017.

he also recorded several records, including the 100-row record in three minutes and nine seconds in 2018, still the second fastest in the world today.

Although it may seem out of date, Tetris still has a very strong following, as evidenced by the new film in production.
