During the gala evening of The Game Awards conducted and organized by Geoff Keighley the best games of the year are awarded, according to the nominations of the jury and the final votes that bring together the ideas of the jury and the public who vote online. Apparently, however, some alleged charges of vote falsification by bots have emerged in these hours.
Keighley is in fact investigating claims that an automated system has taken over in the Player’s Voice category.
As reported by The Gamer, some users have accused Genshin Impact developer, miHoYo, of using the promise to offer free currency within the game to secure votes.
As of this writing, Sonic Frontiers has just taken over the classification, securing 17% of the votes. This unexpected battle between Sonic and Genshin Impact left favorites like God of War Ragnarok and Elden Ring fighting for third place, while >Horizon Forbidden West and Sifu are set to be eliminated altogether.
As reported by Kotaku, Geoff Keighley was asked if it is possible that bot accounts are actually being used to boost the ratings of some games.
“I don’t know if these are bots”, explains Keighley. «I think it’s fan groups that take action to support a game, or a game that promotes its candidacy to its fan base».
And again: “This is one of the reasons why we don’t have 100% fan votes in the main categories. It tends to be companies that promote their candidacies and fan groups that take action to drive the votes. We are however looking into the matter right now».
The Sonic and Genshin communities are very active and perfectly capable of mobilizing themselves. Neither brand appears to be encouraging their fans to do so, but it’s possible that both sides are hoping to be rewarded with in-game rewards if their game triumphs. For now, therefore, the challenge continues.
In the past few hours, we have brought you the complete and official list of all the nominees, elected as such by adding up the votes of the entire jury.
And, since we’re here, let’s take a closer look at how everything works at this address, reminding you that the appointment with the The Game Awards is for the Italian 1.30 of the Next December 9.
