The best games of 2023 by average rating (so far)

Without even paying too much attention to it, November is also almost over and this means that most of 2023 is gone, and with it many of the crackling releases of the videogame market. This year, you will remember, he had a lot of responsibilities on his shoulders, because several releases expected for 2022 have instead been postponed, with the result that the release calendar is not only very busy, but at times even crazy.\r\nMany of these video games have surprised or caused discussion – think of Hogwarts Legacy, which is part of the series postponed from 2022, or of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (you can find it on Amazon) and Final Fantasy XVI. And, with this autumn, we have already seen the arrival of Starfield, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and several other ambitious proposals.\r\nIf we looked back, with the turning point now behind us for quite a few weeks, how is going 2023 to today? What were the best games in these almost ten months of the year, now that there is very little left until the end credits and that the remaining popular releases are very few?\r\nWe have decided to try to answer by offering you a statistic: we have compiled the ranking of the best games by average rating, according to the aggregator Metacritic (different from the one drawn up by the aggregator itself, which you can find here). In the top 30 that we have put together we have followed the following rules:\r\n\r\nOnly one mention per game, reported for the platform on which it received the highest vote;\r\nThe average vote is expressed in hundredths; \r\nExcludes expansions, we have only included full games;\r\nExcludes games with fewer than 15 reviews in total.\r\n\r\nThis article was originally published in late April and updated in July, August and October. In view of the upcoming releases at the end of the year, we have decided to update it at the end of November.\r\nSo let’s see what emerged in the complete ranking. \r\nBest games of 2023\r\n\r\nBaldur’s Gate III (PC) – 96\r\nThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch) – 96\r\nThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition (Xbox Series PS5) – 93\r\nStreet Fighter 6 (PS5) – 92\r\nSuper Mario Bros. Wonder (Switch) – 92\r\nDiablo IV (Xbox Series 91\r\nCocoon (PS5) – 90\r\nMoss: Book II (PS5) – 90\r\nGhost Trick: Ghost Detective (PC) – 90\r\nMarvel’s Spider-Man 2 (PS5) – 90\r \nRogue Legacy 2 (Xbox Series Golden (Switch) – 90\r\nDave the Diver (PC) – 90\r\nHi-Fi Rush (PC) – 89\r\nDead Space (PS5) – 89\r\nArmored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon ( PC) – 88\r\nVampire Survivors (Switch) – 88\r\n\r\nAs you can see, the ranking is very full of re-releases or remakes, but some of the expected names also managed to enter the top 30 Interesting head-to-head between Zelda: TOTK (which has 152 reviews) and the equally excellent Baldur’s Gate 3 (151 reviews at the time of writing), which embody a very sweet year for gamers.\r\nPlatform side , in the top 30 we have:\r\n\r\n7 games reviewed on Switch;\r\n4 games reviewed on Xbox;\r\n7 games reviewed on PS5; \r\n7 games reviewed on PC.\r\n\r\nIt’s difficult to imagine that, at this point, the ranking could undergo significant changes, but we’ll see if these last weeks of 2023 still have some nice surprises in store for us.
