Super Mario Bros. 2 The Movie, an actor may not return

Sebastian Maniscalco, the actor and comedian who played Spike, Mario’s boss in the Super Mario Bros. film, is not yet certain whether he will return in the sequel scheduled for April 2026.\r\nManiscalco, who had revealed his participation in the project long before its official announcement, he recently expressed skepticism about the possibility of his return, motivating everything with a curious observation: the lack of a plush toy of his character.\r\nSpike, a minor character who appeared in the NES game 1985’s Wrecking Crew was a surprising choice for the cast of the first film (which you can find on Amazon). \r\nHowever, his presence had aroused curiosity when Maniscalco had accidentally teased his involvement, creating headlines and causing quite a stir among longtime fans.\r\nDespite this, the actor does not seem confident for a possible return. During an interview with ScreenRant (via Eurogamer), Maniscalco recounted an episode in which, during a visit to Universal Studios with his children, he noticed how his character was absent from the film’s merchandising line:\r\n\ r\n”I went with my children, and I said: ‘Guys, look, I’ll show you the stuffed animal of dad’s character.’ No Spike. Everyone else was there except me. No stuffed animals, no toys, nothing.”\r\n\r\nThe Super Mario Bros. movie ended with several narrative possibilities, including a post-credit scene set in Brooklyn, the birthplace of Mario, Luigi and Spike.
