The players’ community continues to divide on Starfield (in doubt, find our review here): for some it is an misunderstood masterpiece, for others a disappointment compared to the expectations related to the name Bethesda.
Almost a year after the release of the first DLC Shattered Space (also in this case here is our judgment), the developers published a short celebratory video for the second anniversary of the game. A cryptic teaser that, according to fans’ speculations, may have revealed the title of the next additional content: Terran Armada.
The movie, characterized by that blurred aesthetic typical of teaser, was analyzed frame by frame, until the name of the alleged expansion emerge. A denomination that suggests the involvement of a terrestrial fleet, a possible narrative turning point in the Starfield universe.
The enthusiasm, however, is not unanimous. Many veterans with hundreds of hours on the assets on Steam do not welcome the idea of returning to issues related to the land, already at the center of the main campaign and missions such as that of the resort on Porrima II with the Colonial ship Constant.
The feeling is that of a déjà vu that risks further weakening a game often criticized for the monotony of his universe.
The real knot lies in the same identity of Starfield: a science fiction “alla nasa”, sober and without great alien civilizations. If Shattered Space had brought a more exotic touch with violet planets and Serpiform cults, Terran Armada might seem a step back in terms of originality. Yet it is precisely the variety that would serve to an immense but often not very lively title, in need of settings capable of surprising.
A single DLC will hardly be enough to transform Starfield into the beloved brother of Elder Scrolls and Fallout. That role will possibly be up to a sequel. But this expansion could still mark the creative direction of the project: continue to fall back on terrestrial nostalgia, or really dare with more daring ideas, as Bethesda has done in its best moments.
