Sony Interactive Entertainment: upheaval on the upper floors of the company

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced a major restructuring of its management team, including a number of changes to the engineering leadership team, in view of the imminent departure of SIE Vice President, John Kodera .

Kodera, who previously led the teams that developed the core infrastructure of PlayStation Network, will take on a new role that includes leading the digital transformation for the entire Sony infrastructure.

Hideaki Nishino , who joined SIE in 2000 and known for playing a key role in many of the innovations in PS4 and PS5 product development, was promoted by virtue of experience linked to the SVP platform.

As reported directly to SIE CEO Jim Ryan (via VGC), Nishino – based in San Mateo, California – will oversee engineering and operations network, research and development, design, data strategy and operations, as well as managing product and platform development.

Michael Pattison , current VP of Global Third Party Relations, will report to Nishino in his new SVP role for the planning and management of the platform.

After nearly eight years with the company, Pattison is considered a key figure in building SIE’s portfolio of commercial partnerships for PS4 and PS5, as well as one of the main supporters of the independent development community .

In the finance department, however, SIE vice president and chief financial officer Kazuhiko Takeda will retire in June 2021 after almost 40 years at Sony.

Lin Tao will join SIE as a Tokyo-based Financial, Business Development and Strategy SVP (starting July 2021). Previously she spent five years in the PlayStation industry and seven years in the mobile phone industry.

PlayStation has also announced several additions to the board of directors of SIE Tokyo: along with Representative Director, President and CEO Ryan will be Masayasu Ito as Representative Director and Vice President, Lin Tao as director and vice president and Takeshi Shibata as director.

We remind you that these changes within the company echo the upheaval of Japan Studios, which we made known to you in unsuspected times: last February SIE confirmed that it will reorganize Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Studio giving the the new company structure will be launched starting from next April 1st and leaving only Team ASOBI ( Astro’s Playroom ) untouched.
