The videogame world is preparing to welcome a renewed version of one of the most discussed titles in recent years. Shenmue 3 Enhanced Edition marks the return of the chapter that in 2019 had brought Yu Suzuki’s historical saga back to life, with the aim of correcting many of the critical issues of the original launch and proposing a visually and technically superior experience.
The new edition coincides with a change of course also on the editorial front: last November, Inin Games detected the publication rights from Deep Silver, taking on the commercial control of the series. A move that could affect the future direction of the franchise, given the differences in approach between the two publishers in the management and promotion of their catalogs.
A relevant aspect concerns the backwards compatibility: the owners of the PlayStation 4 or PC versions will be upgraded to the Enhanced Edition, even if the economic methods of this passage have not yet been clarified.
From a technical point of view, the edition aims to exploit the abilities of the latest generation consoles. 4K textures, support for technologies such as DLSS and FSR and reduced loading times promise a more fluid and immersive experience. However, this is not just a graphic restyling: YS Net developers have worked to increase the density of NPC in the city of Niaowu, making it more alive and authentic.
Among the most surprising news is the arrival of the saga on Nintendo platforms, an absolute first in the history of the series. It remains to be clarified if Shenmue 3 Enhanced will arrive on Nintendo Switch 1 and 2. In addition to the Nintendo consoles, the title will also land on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, thus ensuring a complete cross -platform coverage.
On the gameplay front, several interventions aim to respond to the criticisms received in 2019. Ryo resistance system has been revised, health automatically restores among the fighting and the economic barriers that slowed the progression were reduced. In addition, players will now be able to skip cutscene and dialogues, streamlining the experience.
There is no lack of particular attention to historical fans: the Classic Camera Mode reports the shot of the first two chapters, offering a nostalgic bond with the past. All changes remain optional and can be deactivated, in line with the philosophy of customization that characterizes this new edition.
