According to a new rumor, Eidos Montreal would have worked for a year on a new title in the series Final Fantasy, then canceled at the behest of the directors of Square Enix.
First of all, the Shadow of the Tomb Raider study – according to the youtuber SuperBunnyHop, who received the tip from some Canadian software house employees – would start working on a new sci-fi IP.
This title would have contained a very rich story, with a love triangle and the possibility of interplanetary travel. Apparently, it was proposed to the parent company Square Enix and had some success.
Such a success that the former president of the Japanese company Yoichi Wada, was 2012 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution had been acclaimed by critics and public, would have given a mandate to turn it into a new chapter in the Final Fantasy saga.
After a year, however, things would not have evolved in the expected way: the company’s board of directors would have imposed the cancellation of the project and obtained, for this and other reasons (including the mara on Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Kingdom Hearts ), the removal not only of Wada but also of the vertices of Eidos Montreal.
In fact, this would explain the many changes to a managerial plan made by the publisher and the developer of Montreal, as well as the year of silence of the latter before the presentation of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
Take a look at the video below to learn more but of course keep in mind that, lacking any kind of confirmation or possibility of verification, it is “only” of a potential, interesting background on the videogame industry.
