PS5 backwards compatible with “almost all” PS4 games

After so many months of questions, Sony also get the first answers on the topic backward compatibility , regarding its PlayStation 5 . We already knew that the next generation console would allow us to still have fun with the games released on PS4, but today – during the live streaming of Mark Cerny, lead architect of the console, we learned more details about it.

So we find out, directly from the engineer who made the console possible, that PS5 will allow you to play PS4 titles, but you will need to work on them to make them run on the future console . To understand this, this means that not all games can be played automatically on PS5 , which is why Cerny explained that «almost all of the most popular PS4 games» will be compatible with PS5.

This is a type of procedure that we have already seen in the past, due to the backward compatibility of PS4, which required specific work on previous games, so that it was possible to run them correctly on the console and make them enter the backwards compatibility .

There are no references to backward compatibility with previous generations of PlayStation.

In these same hours, we have also learned the full specifications of PS5, which will mount less than 1TB SSD support. If you want to see the numbers of Sony’s next-gen and Xbox Series X as a whole, you can take a look at our summary comparison.
