Unfortunately, the announcements of layoffs in the world of video games continue and today it is the turn of People Can Fly, the team behind Outriders (you can find it on Amazon) which will leave over 120 people.\r\nThe announcement came as usual via social media media, in which the CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski explains the details of this decision.\r\n«Today we made a very difficult decision», explains the CEO: «To reduce our self-publishing strategy by suspending the Victoria Project, downsizing our team on the Bifrost Project and restructuring some of our support teams at People Can Fly.»\r\nRegarding the reasons that led to this choice, there are unfortunately not too many surprises compared to the announcements made in the last times on the subject of layoffs:\r\n\r\n«We are deeply saddened that this situation means suspending or parting ways with over 120 talented Airmen, colleagues we have valued as part of our team. This action was necessary as external market pressures persisted beyond our expectations. The video game market is still evolving and we need to adapt to the current situation.»\r\n\r\nWojciechowski specifies that People Can Fly is doubling its efforts with new commissioned work assignments and focusing on the development of a single independent game. \r\n«We believe in our teams, our games and their potential and remain extremely committed to continuing this journey, but we must adapt our plans to our financial capacity», explains the CEO emphatically.\r\nPeople Can Fly is a Polish development studio based in Warsaw, founded in February 2002 by Adrian Chmielarz, co-founder of Metropolis Software, together with Michał Kosieradzki and Andrzej Poznański. The studio’s first game, Painkiller (2004), achieved great success, paving the way for a deal with THQ to develop Come Midnight. This project allowed the studio to expand, but the cancellation of the game led People Can Fly into a difficult financial crisis.\r\nIn 2007, Epic Games purchased a majority stake in the studio, starting a collaboration that gave rise to titles such as Bulletstorm ( 2011) and Gears of War: Judgment (2013). These projects solidified People Can Fly’s reputation as a developer of fast-paced and innovative action games.\r\nThere has been no shortage of recent news regarding layoffs, unfortunately, as Deck Nine, Tequila Works and Reflector Entertainment have also had to review their own workforce.
