Not only Super Mario: the Minecraft movie arrives (with a star from the DC universe)

Super Mario Bros. – The Movie, the animated film dedicated to the most famous Nintendo plumber ever, has recently landed in all cinemas, although it is now it’s time to talk about upcoming movies based on video games, including Minecraft.

The project with Chris Pratt and inspired by the Grande N video game series (which you can find on Amazon) is in fact only the latest in a series of feature films inspired by successful video game.

In our review, we told you that “Super Mario Bros. – The film manages to make you forget what bad happened with the first film of 1993, establishing itself as a new quality standard in regards to movies based on video games.”

Now, as also reported by PC Games N, soon it will also be the turn of Minecraft, so much so that a great star of the DC Universe has come on board for the project, namely Jason Momoa.

The release date of the Minecraft film is in fact set for 2025: this means that there are almost exactly two years left before we can see Momoa in the adaptation for the big screen of the world’s largest sandbox game.

The film will be directed by Jared Hess, known for films such as Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre. The Minecraft project has reportedly been in production as early as 2014, when discussions were held between Mojang and Warner Bros. about the potential for a film dedicated to the franchise.

Since then, the project has changed directors on several occasions, with It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia‘s Rob McElhenney possibly stepping in, only to step down.

As for the cast, the presence of Jason Momoa has been confirmed among the names involved at the moment. The Hawaiian actor is best known for his role as Aquaman in the film of the same name, as well as having lent his voice to The LEGO Movie 2 and playing Duncan Idaho in the 2021 film Dune.

Staying on the subject, a few weeks ago we tested a new Minecraft spin-off that adds a strategy component to the classic world created by Mojang.

But that’s not all: one of the two directors of the 90s film dedicated to the Super Mario character has recently returned to talk about his unfortunate live action film.

Finally, Jack Black himself expressed his desire to see a real Red Dead Redemption film made.
