Free games are an interesting initiative with great potential for Netflix which, however, so far has not given the streaming giant the desired results.\r\nNetflix’s free games are not working very well, in fact. As we told you, only a very small part of players have taken advantage of the catalogue, that is, an average of 2.2 million users who choose to use the free games offered on a daily basis.\r\nIf we consider that Netflix currently has 247.15 million registered users, the the situation becomes absolutely worrying: it means that the percentage fails to reach even 1% of total users.\r\nAll this means that free games do not even generate the hoped-for earnings, and there is a need for a change in direction. However, according to exclusive findings by the Wall Street Journal, it appears that Netflix wants to increase the burden on developers.\r\nExecutives of the streaming giant have discussed in recent months how to generate revenue from games, according to people familiar with the discussions.\r\nAmong those possibilities are including additional in-app purchases, selling the more sophisticated games they are developing separately, or giving subscribers to its new ad-supported tier access to ad-supported games at internally.\r\nSuch moves would mark a major shift for Netflix, which has resisted placing ads or in-app purchases in its games since the gaming initiative began.\r\nAlso, some Netflix executives and investors have questioned the split’s strategy. At a Netflix leadership meeting in 2022, an analyst from Capital Group, which has a large stake in the platform, questioned the value of the gaming push and expressed concern that it was taking resources away from programming, according to the Wall Street Journal.\r\nWe’ll see what happens also because Netflix has declared that it wants to focus heavily on games in 2024 too, and therefore drastic measures are needed.\r\nObviously many free Netflix games are present on other platforms, such as GTA Trilogy which you can easily find it on Amazon for consoles.
