Modder transforms a N64 controller into a game boy micro

Uun Modder named Masakee gave birth to a project that challenges any practical logic but conquers for its originality. The digital artist managed to merge two nintendo icons belonging to different generations: the tiny game boy micro in 2005 and the iconic Nintendo 64 controller. The result is a hybrid that completely transforms the portable gaming experience, making it much less portable but infinitely more spectacular.
The Game Boy Micro already represented an engineering challenge in itself: with its only 80 grams of weight and a 2 -inch backlit screen, this pocket console was essentially a game Boy Advance reduced to the essentials. Its already customizable nature, thanks to the interchangeable facades, and the high price on the second -hand market make this device rarely the protagonist of extreme modding projects.
However, Masakee has seen beyond these practical limitations. The Modder shared the images of his project on the Reddit Community dedicated to the Game Boy, immediately triggering the interest of fans. The technical challenge was no small: how to integrate an already complete device within a controller keeping all the features?

The solution adopted demonstrates a profound understanding of both devices. Instead of limiting yourself to frame the console in the controller, Masakee created a rectangular opening in the center of the Nintendo 64 pad, perfectly positioning the display of the Game Boy Micro. But the real stroke of genius lies in having transformed the Expansion Port of the Controller – normally used for Rumble Pak or Pak Controller – in an accommodation for the cartridges of the Game Boy Advance.
Hardware integration reaches significant sophistication levels: the micro ignition switch has been repositioned on the upper part of the controller, while a USB port allows top -up. To complete the audio experience, a headphone jack was added under the Z button, on the back of the device.

The control system perhaps represents the brightest aspect of the entire operation. All the main buttons of the Nintendo 64 controller have been mapped to work with the Game Boy Micro: the D-PAD, analog stick, buttons A, B and Start maintain their original functions. The Z button, absent in the original game boy, was intelligently remapped as a select key.
The four yellow c butters, characteristic of the Nintendo 64 controller, found a new life by checking the volume and brightness of the display. This solution eliminates practically any functional limitation: everything that can be done with a Game Boy Micro Standard is also possible with this modified version. The only substantial difference? It is hardly this modified controller will find space in a pocket, definitively transforming a portable experience into a desk station with an irresistible retro charm.
