When you love doing something, you like to continue doing it even if your tasks have changed. Surely, this is what Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of FromSoftware and recently author of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, thinks, who, rather than sitting at a desk analyzing graphs for his managerial role, prefers to “get my hands dirty” and continue to work actively to create video games.\r\nInterviewed by The Guardian, the game director and manager of the company explained that «I love to grow and look after the new directors, to bring them to the next phase of the company. Sitting in a management office all day is not my style.”\r\n”I like to get my hands dirty and continue making video games together” Miyazaki added, “I hope through this I can communicate and convey my process to a new generation of talents”.\r\nRegarding his role as president, Miyazaki is certainly not scared by the title and continues to dedicate himself to what he loves most: creating video games. Which is also the best way to guarantee the future success of FromSoftware, considering the results that those same video games bring home.\r\n\r\nIn his words, half seriously and half jokingly:\r\n\r \n”I’ve had the title of president for almost ten years now, but I would say about 95% of what I do at the company, and how I spend my time, is creating and directing video games.\r\ nUsing this ratio, we could say that I basically only have six months of management experience!»\r\n\r\nAwarded both Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring with the coveted game of the year title at The Game Awards, Miyazaki undoubtedly has the merit of having found a unique stylistic signature for his action RPGs, always in balance between the unequal challenge and the ability to stimulate the player to improve in order to find a way to continue.\r\nElden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, for example, is extremely challenging, but offers a richness worthy of an entire game rather than a DLC, as explained in our video review. And who knows what else Miyazaki and his team will invent for the future of FromSoftware, while he continues to operate in his position where he is 95% creating and 5% managing.
Miyazaki spends “95% of his time creating games”, he doesn’t care about being president
