Jake Solomon, 2K veteran and director of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, leaves Firaxis after well 23 years career in the company.
The strategist with Marvel characters (you can find him on Amazon) had great potential on his side in terms of gameplay and characters, but not everything went according to plan.
The title itself also turned out to be a nice surprise, a very bold and functional reinterpretation of the classic formula of XCOM that we have told in our review.
But the public did not appreciate the same way, so much so that not even the Free trial periods seem to be very popular.
A launch, that of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, which wasn’t excellent at all and which also left 2K disappointed.
And that it cost Jake Solomon dearly, who just today announced the abandonment of Firaxis.
Despite the effective connection between the performance of the title and the departure, 2K immediately wanted to reiterate that it is on good terms with Solomon despite everything (via VGC) .
Exploring the matter, a 2K spokesperson explained better the circumstances that saw the director’s departure:
“We deeply appreciate his work and can’t wait to see what he does next. We are proud of what the team has achieved with Marvel’s Midnight Suns which has been well received by critics, Marvel fans and tactic gamers alike. […] We are excited about the future of Firaxis Games under new studio head Heather Hazen, which includes confirming that Firaxis is in development on the next Civilization game.”
Why yes, in the meantime 2K also announced the existence of a new half-mouthed Civilization , for which obviously no details were added.
Regarding his exit from Firaxis, Jake Solomon added:
“I’ve really enjoyed designing turn-based tactical games, but it’s time for other smarter people to push this area forward. My brain is on fire with a new dream. Time to go chase him.”
A true shame for Solomon and for Midnight Suns, in the hope that the next Marvel games can have a higher success than the strategic one.
For a studio that is dismembered, there is one that is born, however, namely Wildlight Entertainment made up of veterans of Titanfall and Apex Legends.
