Gran Turismo is one of the most iconic series in the world of video games, and it is no coincidence that it turns 25 in 2022.
A celebration that had already begun some time ago, because the seventh chapter had also been launched with a special version dedicated to the series (which you can still find on Amazon).
A very important series for PlayStation, which the Japanese company will surely celebrate sooner or later even within PlayStation Stars, the initiative with special prizes.
And while an event dedicated to this important milestone has also arrived, PlayStation is taking a time to talk about Gran Turismo as it should be.
He does so via the PlayStation Blog, of course, sharing a personal message from the CEO of Polyphony Digital, Kazunori Yamauchi.
«In 1992, Gran Turismo was the first project I created among almost 100 others that I had conceived at the beginning of my career», Yamauchi begins in the first lines of the post.
Yamauchi also tells a curiosity related to his beginnings which were linked more than anything else to film production . He then found himself in a department where the first PlayStation was starting to come to life at the hands of Kutaragi.
And while it proposed various types of games, Gran Turismo began to take shape both as a project and as a team capable of developing it.
Who helped make the franchise a sales success:
«The founding members of the company are still working at the forefront and I am grateful and proud that all 200 of our staff members form a team with the same motivation and love with which the company began. Over the past 25 years, the total cumulative sales of the series have reached over 90 million copies as of November 16, 2022. And this achievement is something we could not have achieved on our own.”
A truly important achievement, which Yamauchi attributes to the support of the team, the fans and the entire Gran Turismo community, thanking them for their love and support.
In the meantime Gran Turismo 7 continues its reigning ride, complete with constant updates and new features.
