Ubisoft has officially confirmed that a new chapter of the historic Ghost Recon series is in development, and this time it will be an experience completely firsthand.
The news comes directly from a recent meeting with the shareholders, during which the CEO Yves Guillemot illustrated the company’s strategy for the next few years, focusing on as a live service titles like Rainbow Six Siege have represented a winning model.
In mentioning the future projects on which Ubisoft is aiming, Guillemot has explicitly included The Division and Ghost Recon, making it clear that both will play a central role in the panorama of multiplayer and long support titles.
The existence of the new Ghost Recon (the old ones you find them on Amazon) had already been anticipated over the years by some rumors, according to which the game – currently known by the code name OVR – should enter the internal alpha testing phase by the end of 2025, with a possible launch window set for the autumn of 2026.
However, what distinguishes this project from the previous ones is the decision to adopt a first -person view, a radical change compared to the classic third -person setting that has characterized each chapter of the series since its debut in 2001.
A transformation that marks a clear alignment with modern FPS trends, as well as Call of Duty, and in particular with the successful model represented by Rainbow Six Siege, also developed by Ubisoft.
It has not been revealed much more in terms of gameplay or setting, but considering the long history of the franchise, the new title is likely to maintain some of the tactical elements that have made the series famous, adapting them to a structure and a view that aim to make the experience more engaging and direct.
With a still distant exit, Ubisoft has all the time to perfect the project and demonstrate if Ghost Recon firsthand will really live up to expectations, or just an attempt to chase consolidated trends.
