Cross play in Tekken 8? “Of course I do,” confirms Harada

Fighting game lovers are in a period of great fibrillation: among the many interesting projects in the works, in fact, we also have Tekken 8, which as we told you a few days ago aims to give an epic finale to the atavistic Mishima-Kazama clash involving Heihachi, Kazuya and Jin.

To allow us to experience the new iron fist tournament, Bandai Namco’s title will make some important improvements to its combat system and, now, we also get another confirmation, directly from the author Katsuhiro Harada.

To those who asked him, in fact, if Tekken 8 will also be able to count on cross-play – which would allow players on different platforms to interact with each other, challenging each other online – Harada confirmed that the feature will exist, even taking it for granted.

As explained in very simple terms by the director:

«Cross play? Of course, I’ll include it.

However, when the previous generation of consoles arrived, I had already proposed cross-play between the two platforms, but at that time they were in conflict over their mutual interests (and P2P security issues) and repeatedly refused».

In short, for some time now Harada wanted to bring cross-play into the Tekken saga , but apparently the frictions in the interests of PlayStation and Xbox had not made it feasible.

In Tekken 8 there will also be Rollback

Moreover, the director also confirmed that Tekken 8 will have the netcode rollback – even if in this case the confirmation came with a little spice, in response to a player who had asked the question immediately pressing the cross-play question underneath.

«We’ve already installed it»he explained, in fact, «it already includes what you want. The reason we don’t make big announcements like cross-play is that if we do, people will just say things like ‘waaaa! It’s a very normal thing in this era, nowadays’. So shut up and sit down.”

In recent days, Harada had also curiously defined Tekken 8 as the Dark Souls of fighting games, while the introductions of the members of his roster never ended stops: in fact, we have just seen a double reveal that adds up to other important returns, such as the legendary one by Jun Kazama.

At the moment we don’t yet know when Tekken 8 will arrive, but the ingredients for a new highly spectacular episode seem to be all in place and we will follow the game closely for you.
