Capcom will still focus on nostalgia after Okami and Onimusha

Capcom is focusing on nostalgia, with Okami and Onimusha soon to return to the limelight: but apparently it doesn’t end here.\r\nThe home of Street Fighter (of which you can find the latest chapter on Amazon), is in fact experiencing a particularly flourishing.\r\nAmong the biggest surprises at this year’s The Game Awards, Capcom shone by announcing the return of two beloved sagas: the Okami sequel and the new Onimusha.\r\nThis isn’t just a gift for fans of the old guard, but part of a precise strategy of the Japanese giant.\r\nIn an official statement (via NL), Capcom revealed that the relaunch of historical IPs such as Okami and Onimusha is part of an initiative aimed at exploiting its rich catalog of intellectual properties to the fullest.\r\n\r\n«The company is working to further enhance business value by leveraging its vast content library, including the revitalization of legacy IP, to consistently produce high efficiency titles e quality.»\r\n\r\nIn recent years, Capcom has already demonstrated its commitment with collections such as Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection (reviewed here) and the games based on Ace Attorney. \r\nAnd looking to the future, 2025 promises to be interesting: a new chapter of Monster Hunter is on the way (we tried it), along with much more.\r\nWhat will become of the legendary Mega Man? Capcom doesn’t say too much, but during a meeting with shareholders last June, it confirmed that the franchise is always at the center of its reflections.\r\nA survey from the same period asked fans which series they would like to see again, and titles like Breath of Fire have positioned themselves among the most requested.\r\nCapcom is not the only Japanese company to rediscover the value of nostalgia. SEGA is also working to bring back classics like Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, Jet Set Radio and even Virtua Fighter.\r\nThis new wave of revivals could mark a trend: companies are realizing that fans have not forgotten their classics favorites. The return of historic titles such as Okami and Onimusha promises to unite old generations and new players in a timeless experience.\r\nIt is also true that long-awaited innovations such as Resident Evil 9 are instead being made to wait longer than necessary.
