Capcom warns, Resident Evil Requiem will be “a roller coaster ride”

Resident Evil Requiem imposed himself as the absolute protagonist of the Gamescom, conquering numerous prizes and confirming the very high expectations around the ninth main chapter of the Capcom’s horror saga. The first public game session has left such a positive impression as to further consolidate the reputation of the franchise with critics and fans.
During the event, the game director Koshi Nakanishi revealed significant details on the creative direction of the project, outlining a philosophy that promises to revolutionize the experience. The team has chosen to move away from the most action approach of the last chapters.
Resident Evil 4 Remak and Village (here and here the respective reviews), while representing important successes, have privileged dynamic elements that now leave room for a more classic formula.
In fact, Requiem embraces the canons that made the series famous: methodical exploration, strategic backtracking, management of limited resources and resolution of complex enigmas.

If I had to compare it to the previous titles, it approaches more to Resident Evil 7 or the remake of Resident Evil 2.

Nakanishi explained, calling it a return to the “old style” of the saga.
However, the real distinctive element lies in an innovative approach to the management of the player’s emotions. The Director spoke of a “dynamic curve” that alternates moments of extreme tension with relative relief phases, technique already tested but now brought to the extreme.
This system uses the alternation between terrifying sequences and more peaceful phases, creating a roller coaster effect that amplifies the emotional impact of each section.
In addition to the playful aspects, Requiem also pushes on the technological front: it will be the first of the Serie to exploit the path tracing on the King Engine, together with the support for Nvidia DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation on PC.
Nakanishi has mentioned a “new system” still not revealed, designed to further accentuate the differences between the peaks of tension and the moments of quiet. This mysterious element could represent the heart of the innovation of the title, designed to offer an unprecedented emotional experience in the saga.
Resident Evil Requiem will arrive on February 27, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S | X, when we can find out if the promises of a revolutionary horror experience will be kept.
