Younger players may not remember Chris Metzen in Blizzard, but he was one of the creators of World of Warcraft.
A time ago, when World of Warcraft was only an experimental project and not a very powerful franchise with lots of gadgets popping up everywhere (even on Amazon), Chris Metzen was a very important name.
Known for not only being on the original WoW team, but also for being the pen of most of the settings of Blizzard games, including Overwatch , although he left Blizzard shortly after its release (and in a general bad time).
And as World of Warcraft expanded with Dragonflight, the new expansion part of a growing franchise, Chris Metzen returns to Blizzard.
The announcement was made by John Hight and Mike Ybarra, respectively vice president and general manager of Warcraft, and the president of Blizzard, in a short press release via Twitter.
“It is with great joy that I announce the return of Chris Metzen to the Warcraft Leadership Team as a Consultant Creative», begins Hight, who continues:
“Chris’ efforts will initially be focused on World of Warcraft, with his work expanding to other projects throughout the growing franchise. Chris was one of the original team members who worked on the Warcraft universe around the time he was born in 1994, and we are so happy to reunite him with the world he helped create. »
To which Ybarra obviously echoes, underlining the importance of this great comeback:
Happy to have Chris Metzen back at Blizzard helping steer the @Warcraft ship forward for players. https://t.co/TZvBHkySeq

Metzen left Blizzard in 2016, and his return could be a good signal for fans who, after so many disappointments, are really looking for the return of the Irvine software house.
Dragonflight is an expansion that is ultimately doing well. Enough to convince even a star of Stranger Things to return to WoW after 18 years.
In the meantime, Blizzard has also moved on the acquisitions side, bringing with it a development team to be inserted into its massive MMO.
