BioWare ready for criticism of Veilguard: «Dragon Age Origins was also not received well»

To say that Dragon Age The Veilguard has been discussed is a pale understatement, but according to BioWare the series has always encountered criticism from the public, including the acclaimed Dragon Age Origins.\r\nA title that, today, represents an ancestor of Baldur’s Gate 3 (you can find it on Amazon) capable of shaking up the fantasy videogame imagination, quickly becoming one of the most loved games of the genre of all time.\r\nSo much so that, with the latest patch, curiously Dragon Age The Veilguard with the latest update seems to have almost copied some details of the latest patch of Baldur’s Gate 3.\r\nYet, as BioWare itself explains in an interview with Eurogamer, it’s not that was greeted with jubilation at the time.\r\nGame director Corinne Busche and series creative director John Epler talked about Dragon Age The Veilguard and the reactions, cold a few weeks after the launch.\r\nIn the long chat we also got to talking about the reactions towards the game, obviously. In this case it is Busche himself who talks about the series and how it has been received over time:\r\n\r\n«Did we expect it? Yes and no. What we know is that these reactions have been part of Dragon Age’s journey with each chapter. Even if you look back at Origins, it wasn’t necessarily greeted at the time with the reverence that it has today, because people were still picking up games like Neverwinter Nights, so we saw it through every chapter. This time it was more than we expected, but we expected it.”\r\n\r\nBusche adds that the main problem is related to the reinvention of the game, especially since there is such a large player base that everyone has own idea of what Dragon Age is.\r\nAs for public expectations, Epler explains that BioWare was aware that it could in no way survive the fans’ long wait:\r\n\r\n«The reality was that whatever we had invented, it would never live up to Dragon Age 4 in people’s minds and imaginations. It’s not trying to be all things to all people. It’s trying to be itself, it’s trying to be the game it wants to be.”\r\n\r\nIn the past, BioWare had stated that Veilguard would return to the company’s golden era, but maybe it didn’t work out exactly the same when looking at sales.
