The stories related to layoffs in the world of video games continue to evolve, it seems, because Tequila Works is now asking its employees to work essentially for free.\r\nThe studio had already announced layoffs last October, with the usual process that accompanies every information regarding workforce cuts within video game development studios.\r\n«This difficult decision will lead us to restructure the studio, focusing on the development of a single game. These changes will affect a small number of roles within the team,” Tequila Works said at the time.\r\nAnd now, as reported by Eurogamer ES, the development team has officially declared bankruptcy.\r\nTequila Works has entered into receivership, and its founders Raúl Rubio and Luz Sancho left the management of the company. In their place, Térence Mosca, who until then held the role of Chief Operating Officer, took over the role of general manager.\r\nAt the same time as this announcement, Tequila Works seems to be working on some projects anyway. In 2022 the team had received some funding from Tencent to continue the aforementioned projects.\r\nNow these fundings have been suspended and, while the developers claim to have been taken by surprise by the news of the bankruptcy, the development team has asked its members remaining after the dismissal to continue working in the coming weeks, even if uncertainty remains over the payment of salaries.\r\nAuthors of the excellent RIME originally published on PlayStation (you can find it on Amazon), Tequila Works has created many interesting experiences such as The Sexy Brutale and Song of Nunu – A League of Legends Story that we told you about on these pages, proving to be another excellent production from the Riot Forge label.\r\nSpeaking of layoffs, PlayStation recently also declared that the layoffs will be followed by other cuts of various types. While Netflix and Ubisoft begin to deal with their own restructurings.
