A Star Wars becomes Next-Gen, and you can try it for free

A small but interesting revolution in graphic modding has just arrived for Star Wars fans. A Tech Demo RTX Remix for Star Wars Jedi Knight II was released: Jedi Outcast, a historic 2002 title developed by Raven Software.
And the novelty is not only in the addition of path tracing, but also in the fact that this game uses OpenGL, API not officially supported by RTX REMIX.
To get around this limitation, Modder Arjaanauinger has used a Wrapper called Qindiegl, combined with a deep personalization of the configuration files.
The result? The first concrete experiment of RTX Remix on an OpenGL game, potentially opening the way to many other graphic conversions in the future – and yes, Quake is obviously the first name that comes to mind. Just below, you can also find a video that shows the potential completely.

At the moment it is just a technical demo: the path tracing is active in a single level and the project has several visual problems. The author emphasizes that everything is still very raw, and hardware requests are high. With a GeForce RTX 3070, for example, you have to wait for an average of about 50fps at 1080p.
Despite imperfections, this mod represents an important step. Not so much for what it offers today, as for what it could make possible tomorrow.
RTX Remix and Path Tracing technologies continue to demonstrate how flexible and how potential they have in reviving timeless classics with a completely new visual guise.
For the curious, it is already possible to download the mod here, while two demonstration videos are available for those who just want to take a look without testing it firsthand. It will not be perfect, but seeing Jedi Outcast (also sightable on Amazon) under a new light – literally – is a small dream for long -standing enthusiasts.
