Fans of Resident Evil 5 can finally dust off this 2009 classic with a completely new look. A modder known by the pseudonym of Evgeshajk has in fact released a substantial graphic patch that brings all the textures of the game to 4K resolution, offering new life to a title that, despite having been appreciated at the time of its release, today inevitably shows the signs of the technological age. The main problem that afflicts this chapter of the Capcom saga concerns the quality of the textures, which on modern high-resolution screens appear grainy and poorly defined.
The technique used for this ambitious project is based on artificial intelligence applied to graphic enhancement. The creator of the mod used upscaling tools based on AI algorithms to resample the original textures, bringing them to four times the resolution. However, it was not limited to an automated process: numerous manual interventions were necessary to ensure that the final result kept the visual atmosphere intended by the original developers intact. The declared objective was to improve without distorting, preserving the artistic identity of the game.
The direct comparison between the original and modified versions was documented through an explanatory video, which clearly shows the impact of the improvements made. The differences are particularly evident in outdoor environments, where architectural and naturalistic details that previously appeared blurry now emerge with surprising clarity. Even the faces of the characters and the objects scattered in the scenarios benefit significantly from the intervention, being much more readable during game sessions.
However, installing the mod requires some additional technical steps that users must know to avoid malfunctions. In particular, it is essential to apply a 4GB patch to the game’s executable file (re5dx9.exe), otherwise the system will encounter frequent crashes during sessions. This procedure serves to circumvent some memory limitations that would prevent the game from correctly handling high resolution textures. Downloading the main mod is available through a direct link provided by the creator.
Those who want to push the visual experience even further can combine this pack with another mod that removes the greenish filter applied by default to the game. This second mod also adds improved depth of field effects, stronger contrasts and advanced color and shadow management. In the demonstration video published by the modder, both changes are active simultaneously, showing the maximum potential that can be achieved with these interventions on the PC version of the game.
