The world of videogame merchandising is enriched with a new collaboration that unites the universe of videogames with that of Olympic sport. Sega and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have signed a multi-year licensing agreement that will feature Sonic the Hedgehog alongside the famous Olympic rings in a line of co-branded products. The partnership represents a return of the Japanese publisher to the Olympic orbit, following the conclusion in 2020 of the previous collaboration with Nintendo for the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games series of games.
The initiative will develop through a gradual approach that initially involves the exploration of opportunities to license the new designs created by the union between the fastest blue hedgehog in the gaming world and the Olympic symbols. Having identified key partners for these first selected collaborations, the launch of the full collection is scheduled for 2026. This timing will allow the two organizations to test market response and optimize the offering before the large-scale debut.
According to Shuji Utsumi, president and COO of Sega, the collaboration is based on a natural convergence of values between the Sonic franchise and the Olympic universe. \
