The new chapter of DOOM was shown a few days ago and it seems to be a game with class to spare.\r\nAfter DOOM Eternal (which you can find on Amazon) the series is in fact ready to return to the roots of the franchise.\r\nAfter having the official gameplay trailer has been revealed, Xbox and id Software have confirmed that DOOM: The Dark Ages is inspired by the founders of the series.\r\nAs also reported by GameSpot, in fact, the directors of The Dark Ages, Hugo Martin and Marty Stratton, have stated that the game takes inspiration from both DOOM 1 and DOOM 2.\r\n”At the beginning of the project, everyone goes back and plays the original DOOM,” Stratton explained.\r\n”There were so many things in that original game that fueled us… There’s always evolution, but there’s a lot of DNA also in the way we develop and the size of our team.”\r\n”When we were talking about what was DOOM, it was very similar to borrowing ideas from the original DOOM and DOOM 2. As the brand has evolved and the ideas through the story and all the different gameplay mechanics have evolved… it’s amazing that when you play the game you think ‘this is incredible.'”\r\nAdditionally, the directors explained that the slower projectiles in this game also come from the first two DOOM titles.\r\n”I believe that in the original DOOM, in the opening hours, we all remember the goblins or soldiers shooting slow bullets… and hitting hard,” Martin explained.\r\n”And if you get hit by one of those, you’re in a lot of trouble. .. This is where movement comes in. Instead of building a multi-level arena… if we put it on the ground, slow down the bullets, make them much harder and create patterns in space, then that’s the gym we move in.”\r\nMartin and Stratton cited King Leonidas from 300 and Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings trilogy as primary inspirations for this game’s Dragon Slayer, particularly to give players the feelings of power and skill that those characters conveyed on screen.\ r\nMartin also noted that Leonidas specifically inspired the shield, which was then combined with a chainsaw for the Doom Slayer.\r\nDOOM: The Dark Ages will release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC in 2025 Furthermore, an unexpected confirmation has also arrived: it is not an Xbox exclusive, but will also be available on PS5 from launch.
