Not a week goes by without an announcement of a series of layoffs in the world of video games, and this time it’s up to Avalanche, authors of Just Cause, who will be hit by the now too frequent cuts to the workforce.\r\nAs reported by Gamedeveloper, Avalanche Studios Group has closed its studios in New York and Montreal and laid off 50 employees.\r\nIn a brief statement on the official website, Avalanche said the layoffs will impact approximately 9% of employees worldwide. \r\n«This is an exceptionally difficult decision, but we believe it is necessary to ensure a stable and sustainable future for the company», wrote the company:\r\n\r\n«Our goal now is support all Avalanchers during this difficult time. We are grateful for the valuable contributions of those who leave and remain committed to creating incredible gaming experiences for our players.»\r\n\r\nFounded more than 20 years ago, Avalanche has had five studios in Stockholm, Malmö , Liverpool, New York and Montreal. Among the franchises he has worked on are Just Cause, Rage, Mad Max and theHunter.\r\nThe further detail in this news is that Avalanche Montreal has a very short lifespan, compared to other studios.\r\nAvalanche Montreal has officially opened launches in October 2023 after Avalanche acquired and integrated Monster Closet’s development team into the studio’s hierarchy. The Montreal team was tasked with «participating in the development of current and future IPs» but, 8 months after its foundation, it has now been put aside.\r\nThere has often been talk of the fact that a Just Cause could even arrive 5, but evidently this will not be the case. However, you can recover the previous episodes of the saga on Amazon at the best price.\r\nThe news of Avalanche comes, as always, closely with other similar layoffs including Square Enix, Xbox and the authors of Dauntless, among the latest.
