Baldur’s Gate 3 will finally add official support for mods in September, after a summer of tests that will kick off today, June 3.\r\nFans of the fantasy saga (find the first two games on offer on Amazon) will therefore do well to prepare for a wave of new features.\r\nIt is certainly not the first time that Baldur’s Gate 3 has been updated, but this time it is time to get serious.\r\nThe so-called patch 7, which will include the toolkit for modding the game, begins testing now through a closed alpha that will last about a month (via Eurogamer). \r\nAnother 1000 players will be added in July as part of a closed beta. The idea is that the alpha test develops the tools for the mods and ports existing ones, while the beta test will provide feedback on the latter.\r\nThis should end in September, when patch 7 will be available to everyone. \r\nLarian wrote a post on the Steam blog today: «With the intention of working on your feedback throughout the summer, we will have time to refine patch 7 for release in September».\r\n« In the meantime, we still have plenty in store for you, including some anniversary extravaganzas, as we look back on the months since release. We are also continuing to develop an in-game photography mode, crossplay and other fixes coming later!”\r\nThe blog post goes into detail about why modding support is important – to avoid stability issues and game compatibility – and explains how it will work, using mod.io to enable support for all platforms.\r\n«The game will be released on PC first, but we expect to extend support to a broader community and various platforms shortly thereafter, also for Mac players and for PlayStation and Xbox consoles», continues Larian.\r\n«Our goal with mod.io and our partners is to find a balance that allows extensive modding while taking into account guidelines,” Larian wrote. “While some NSFW mods and script-heavy mods may not be supported by the official pipeline, modding outside of our pipeline will still be an option.”\r\nAs for the future, Larian has always also confirmed to be working on 2 new projects after Baldur’s Gate 3, and they will be their “best ever” games.
