A comment from PlayStation boss John Kodera leaked today from a meeting with shareholders Sony gave the ‘there’ to speculations about the beginning of a new generation, now given for imminent.
NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella was unbalanced on this subject, explaining how, in his opinion, the launch of a PlayStation 5 would not be destined to take place before autumn 2020.
“I predict that PS5 will not leave before the autumn of 2020, which would mean at least three other Christmas seasons of great releases to enjoy on the platform, and a cycle with perfectly normal duration”, commented Piscatella on Twitter.
“The fact that a new generation is mentioned has no meaning in relation to the breadth and depth of the contents that are coming”.
The analyst added that he expects 1-2 year hardware update cycles, “to better reflect what happens in other technology lines.” There will be many benefits with increasing frequency. “
