Tekken 8 is annoying players (and microtransactions have something to do with it)

That video games are looking for increasingly imaginative ways to monetize is nothing new. Recently, for example, there has been a lot of talk about the microtransactions of Dragon’s Dogma 2, which offers the possibility to those who want to buy some in-game resources with real money.\r\nWhy someone would want to cut out the gaming experience for unlocking game-based equipment by buying it – rather than, well, playing – is beyond this writer’s comprehension. However, these shops are put into games because someone obviously uses them. And I imagine that Bandai Namco also expects good revenues from the arrival of the Tekken Fight Pass within Tekken 8, recently announced.\r\nAs reported by VGC, in fact, the Japanese company announced this feature in a recent Tekken stream Talk, explaining that it will work practically like the battle pass we usually see in online live services, often free-to-play. Except that here we are not talking about a free-to-play game, but about a game launched at €80. And the reactions of the players were not long in coming.\r\nIn the description of the Fight Pass, Bandai Namco explained that these will allow players «during the foreseen period, to increase their level by completing daily and weekly challenges in online matches, which will allow you to obtain various items”.\r\nHowever, it will also be possible to obtain more valuable items and rewards by joining the Premium tier of the Fight Pass, rather than simply participating in the free one. The fact that these microtransactions are being added several weeks after launch (and after the reviews) has not gone unnoticed, considering that the game was released on January 26th. A month had passed before the Tekken Shop began introducing the first microtransactions, while now the Fight Pass is arriving.\r\nThe reactions, as in this case it was quite easy to predict, are rather disappointed, especially due to the change of race in medias res. An enthusiast, for example, writes that «I would never have bought the Collector’s if I had known in advance that with updates you would introduce both microtransactions and a battle pass. At least Street Fighter 6 had the decency to say that from the start, you should be ashamed.”\r\n”They are treating a game sold at full price as if it were a free game. I can’t believe how low companies have to go today with microtransactions,” writes another. In general, the threads on the Reddit channel dedicated to the game are quite disillusioned and there are many (some in the thousands) positive votes for those who complain about the arrival of the Fight Pass.\r\n«I had bought the Ultimate Edition convincing me that in this way I would have all the DLC and content provided for the Season Pass» comments bitterly another player of Tekken 8. «A free-to-play model in a game sold at full price is beyond deceptive» he writes yet another.\r\nIn short, people are not happy, and it is very understandable why. As always, however, the only opinion that will really count will be that of the players’ wallets: if the Fight Pass idea is rewarded, Bandai Namco will obviously take it into account for future decisions.\r\nYou can deepen your knowledge with Tekken 8 by taking a look at our video review. If interested, you can find the game on Amazon (but no Fight Passi content already included in the price, no).
